Hiroshima bombing

On August the 6 1945 an Atom bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, Japan by a plane called Enola Gay.

Tens of thousands of people were killed. Survivors were badly burned and injured. Many had skin completely burnt off their arms and faces and were wandering the streets looking for water.

As the war entered its sixth and final year, the Allies had begun to prepare for what was going to be a very risky invasion of the Japanese mainland.

The whole design of dropping Fat Man (the bomb) was to get the Japanese to surrender.
