Matahiwi marae

Today was the Matahiwi marae visit. We arrived on buses at the Marae. we sang our school song then we were welcomed by the karanga onto the marae grounds.

We were told to sit down and listen the people speak and Clive school sing a song and their school song. After we listened to people speak we went into the Whare kai and had a cup of water and a biscuit and waited for the teachers to put us into groups.

In the first rotation we listened to a lady , she talked to my group about here childhood and what the panting on the walls mean. One of the facts that I learnt in that rotation was that most moari people grew their own food. In our next rotation my group went into the wharenui and talked about the whale jaw. The man talking about the whale jaw said that the whale was washed up on the beach in Te awanga and was beread their and later uncovered it self because DOC did not release the gas from the whale .

Over all it was an alright day  apart from the wind
